Hey everyone

Posted in Austin on May 19, 2008 by northlamar
I’ve finally completed my move to Austin, TX for my new/old job. The move went without any hitch, but I have learned a valuable lesson in corporate America since arriving back in my hometown for most of the past 4 years. The hotel I work for is being bought by a new company. I, along with the rest of the management team, must RE-interview for out jobs. Just great. I get to go in front of “the Bobs” on Wednesday. I’ll keep up informed.

Live Blogging De La Hoya-Forbes

9:26pm- Mariachi band for the Mexican National Anthem…..really?

9:28pm-Pure class from the Mexicans in the stands by booing the beginning of the Star Spangled Banner.  P.S.-That chick ain’t Whitney Houston.

9:30pm- De La Hoya is obviously the prohibitive favorite, but he has had problems with small, quicker fighters.  I see ODLH winning by TKO in the 7th.

9:35pm-How long did Forbes have to walk to the ring?  After that journey of biblical proportions, how can he be expected to fight.

9:36pm-Does ODLH have to walk as far as Forbes or does he get carried to the ring like Floyd Mayweather against Carlos Baldomir?  Great music ODLH.

9:38pm-ODLH’s walk is 1/4th the distance of Steve Forbes…..Flat Tax haters….er, wrong Steve Forbes…Sorry.

9:40pm-Is Michael Buffer sick?  Like cancer sick?

9:41pm-I’ve always been a big ODLH fan, but the way Forbes is being treated by a crowd that just booed the SSB is moving my loyalties in this fight.

Round 1: Here we go.  ODLH looking to establish jab early.  Forbes is the early aggressor but not landing much.  ODLH seems much more patient than he’s been in a long time.  Wow, Forbes really connected to end the round.  Was it enough to win the round?  I don’t think so, ODLH controlled the round. ODLH 10-9(10-9)

Round 2-Low blow from Oscar early in the round, he also seems to being less patient.  Not good for Oscar unless he can knock Forbes down which no one has ever done.  Forbes is a quality fighter, but just doesn’t have the work rate so far.  ODLH dominates another round.  Forbes can hang with Oscar, but he needs to let his hands go.  ODLH 10-9 (20-18 ODLH)

Round 3- The two fighters trade jabs fro the first half of the round as ODLH’s left eye starts to swell and nose is cut.  Forbes really needs to start letting his hands go.  When he swings, he hits.  Another dominate round from ODLH. ODLH 10-9 (30-27 ODLH)

Round 4-ODLH has stayed patient minus the part of the 2nd round.  Forbes is opening up his hands this round.  While he is connecting more, he is taking more punishment.  What will give?  ODLH seems a bit out of sorts in this round.  He knows that Forbes is faster and is cutting him.  Great job by Forbes.  I’d give this round Forbes 10-9 (39-37 ODLH)

Round 5-Forbes must win this round.  This is his opening and ODLH will close it if Forbes doesn’t take advantage.  Early on, Forbes looks back in his shell.  ODLH is controlling the tempo this round as well as opening the flurries.  As a true professional, ODLH takes back control of the fight.  Nice flurry by ODLH to end the round.  ODLH 10-9  (49-46 ODLH)

Round 6-Oscar’s jab is dominant tonight.  It lands whenever he wants it too and twice on Sunday.  ODLH has a great flurry midway through the round that cuts Forbes badly.  Fairly boring round where ODLH dominates.  However, is Oscar tiring?  Great right hand to end the round by ODLH.  ODLH 10-9 (59-55 ODLH)

Round 7- OK, here is my prediction round. ODLH is bouncing again to start the round.  Forbes isn’t too hurt yet.  Great fight so far with ODLH technically superior.  Oscar’s left hook is landing with more regularity now while the jab is slowly disappearing.  Forbes looking valiant while Oscar dominates the late section of the round.  This is Oscar’s fight.  ODLH 10-9 (69-64 ODLH)

Round 8- Well thanks a lot Oscar.  No TKO in the 7th. Forbes is obviously no longer confortable in the ring with ODLH.  Still, he looks like he could go 20 rounds right now.  Very boring early round.  Is Oscar resting for the stretch drive?  Nice body shots at the 1:00 mark by Oscar.  The last minute of the round almost made me sleepy…almost.  ODLH 10-9 (79-73 ODLH)

Round 9- Forbes now needs a KO or a couple of knockdowns to take this fight.  With his lack of power, I just don’t see it happening unless Oscar runs headfirst into a punch.  Very slow round as well.  Forbes is starting to tire and Oscar is strategic in his punching.  Very nice round by Oscar.  Nice left hook by Forbes at :45.  This fight is over.  It’ll go to the score cards and everyone will be happy.  ODLH 10-9 (89-82)

Round 10-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ….WHOA….Forbes wakes up and starts throwing punches.  Too little to late as Oscar takes control back of the round.  Oscar going for the KO in the last minute but Forbes comes back at him.  Thrilling action for that 30 seconds.  You gotta hand it to Forbes for sticking in their with Oscar so far.  Very strong jaw.  ODLH 10-9  (99-91 ODLH)

Round 11-Both fighters seem to have accepted the fate of this fight.  After the excitement of last round, both fights throw punches just to make it look good. Or maybe they are just tired.  The crowd wakes up at the end of the round.  Free lumber at the Home Depot Center?  ODLH 10-9 (109-100 ODLH)

Round 12-On your feet for the final round…Will Forbes go for a KO?  Early on they look active, but no real power in their punches.  Oscar showed well during the fight.  Mostly stayed with the jab and didn’t tire himself out.  The crowd is booing again at the :20 mark and again after the bell.  Floyd Mayweather….here is your next payday.  ODLH 10-9 (119-109 ODLH)
