My battle ended with the close of a door and turn of a latch. I pulled myself out of bed and walked towards the window to open the blinds.

Outside, Angela was getting into her car to waste another eight hours of her life. My time was coming as well, and I was running late. As I threw on my shoes, I coudn’t help but think,

“Snooze…Hit the goddamn snooze.”

Snooze…

Hit the goddamn snooze.

I could never sleep. As a child, as a teenager, as an adult. Never. But then again, I could never wake up either. It’s the paradox I live with.

Angela was different. She didn’t sleep, but rather, hibernate until the morning spring. Up she was, making breakfast, putting on make-up, getting ready for the day. This morning was no exception. While she would walk around the bedroom, naked from waist up, I would lay with my eyes closed just wating for my lost battle with time to end.
